Copper engraving, mm 530x410. Highly fascinating example in extremely decorative antique colouring of this scarce map extending from Sumatra to the Bengala river and China river. Modern day countries include India, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaya. Showing the major rivers, mountains and cities. In bottom right corner a decorative cartouche, surmounted with two figures in Asian garb and a leopard. From Il Mercurio Geografico, printed by De Rossi. Giacomo Cantelli was born in Vignola, as he remarked with his signature, and was the first official cartographer of the Court of Modena, in 1685, when the Duke Francis II appointed him geographer. Very good condition with some minor marginal foxing and waterstaining.
