WEINMANN, Johann Wilhelm (1683-1741).

Chrysanthemum Indicum Florem et semine maximum
Date: Regensburg,1734 - 1745
Cod 5174
Subject: sunflower
400,00 €
Engraving, printed in colours with additional hand colouring, mm 320x210. A fine image from one of the first works to use colour printing successfully, and the first published work to include work by the greatest botanical artist of the eighteenth century: Georg Dionysius Ehret. Weinmann's work is highly valued for the undoubted artistic standard of the plates, and the individual plates represent an extremely valuable record of the plant kingdom as it was understood and classified in the period just preceding the introduction of Linnaeus' revolutionary system of classification.
