Second plate for this map, prepared by Ortelius in 1592 to replace the older one that had been running from 1590: the major difference between the two plates is the background hatching direction: in the first plate it's running from bottom left to top right, whilst in this second plate, the hatching runs from top left to lower right. "The Holy Land map itself occupies the centre and is surrounded by vignettes of the life of the Patriarch Abraham. Extremely decorative map made by Ortelius, based on Ptolemy, but mostly on the Bible, particularly for the illustrations of Abraham's life from his departure from Ur to his death, depicted in 22 medallions”.
