A milestone in the history of cartography of Cyprus, based on Giacomo Franco’s one, published in Venice in about 1570. This very rare map, which survives in only three copies, improved significantly Cyprus’s cartography and had many followers. Ortelius' map of 1573 is the earliest obtainable version of Franco’s map.
The map is embellished by sailing ships and a sea monster, bearing a map of Lemnos in an inset bottom right based on the writen account by Pierre Belon 1555. At top left the title is framed in a cartouche. A good example nicely coloured and in good condition. Right margin trimmed nearly at platemark. Stylianou, 66; Van den Broeke 149.
