Eight volumes in 8° format (222x146 mm), each approximately 340 pages long. A total of 25 beautiful full-page copperplate engravings, including 13 maps, 1 view of a Russian city, and 4 city maps (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Stockholm, and Copenhagen), as well as scenes of local customs and portraits. Plain cardboard binding and contemporary marbled paper; handwritten titles on paper labels on the spine. First Italian edition. The English traveler and historian William Coxe published several works on his travels in Europe. This Italian edition is based on translations of his renowned travel diaries, which offer detailed historical and geographical descriptions of countries such as Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, and Denmark.
The volumes pertaining to Coxe’s work are included in the *Compendio della storia generale de viaggi* by Jean-François de La Harpe (Paris, November 20, 1739 – February 11, 1803), a French writer, literary critic, and poet. The first French edition, titled *Abrégé de l’histoire générale des voyages* [Summary of the General History of Travel], was published in 32 volumes in 1780. A beautiful, fresh, and authentic copy, with partially uncut edges, printed on heavy paper. Minimal signs of wear on the headbands and corners.
