Four volumes (mm 310x230); pp. 24, with buttonhole, antiporta, dedicatory to His Excellency the Count of Bute, portrait of the author within oval and notice, 5 plates f.t., pp. LX follow about 1500 pp. total with 51 plates placed at the beginning of each canto drawn by P.A. Novelli, engraved by G. Daniotto, G. Zompini, B. Crivellari, G. Magnini and others. Refined talking capitals, vignettes, headpieces and cul de lamp, all finely engraved in copper. Volume four, after the conclusion of the poem, contains the so-called five additional cantos with the same typographic setting; at the end the Illustrations to the Furioso, a rich apparatus to support understanding of the poem. Coeval binding in blue/yellow marbled cardboard, original missing spines replaced by modern spine in similar marbled paper, manuscript title on paper dowel, ex libris Giorgio Fanan on counterplate. Famous edition of Ariosto's masterpiece, standing as one of the masterpieces of 18th-century Venetian publishing for beauty of illustrations and clarity of engravings. Fresh copy with beards and wide margins, some traces of time to plates a little marked at corners and edges.
