In 4th (245 x 200 mm); page (4), XXXI, 363, (1), portrait of the author. in the frontispiece at the age of 84 in 1726, ingr. Jean-Louis Daudet from Vanderbank; frontispiece in red and black with an intaglio vignette, elegant headpieces, talking heads and drop caps, designed by Papillon, within large woodcut vignettes. 12 finely engraved copper plates of optical diagrams relating to Newtonian telescopes and reflectors, folded several times. Contemporary dark brown half leather with corners and plates decorated in printed green cardboard, title embossed in gold on the spine with five bands and friezes with small golden irons. Gold fillets on the plates. Nice copy featuring the first 10 leaves and the frontispiece, reddened as usual, up to the preface and then occasional very light brownings on some pages in the middle of the volume. Second Latin edition (first English edition, 1704, with title: "Opticks, or, a Treatise of the Reflections, Refractions, inflections and Colors of Light"), edited by Newton's disciple, Samuel Clarke, of the complete account of the research optics, based on reason and experimentation and not on hypotheses, definitive "miracle" discoveries by the skeptic Voltaire.
