Text in two columns interspersed with floral friezes, lozenges and ramages, all in the Art Deco style from designs by Enrico Giacomelli. With 230 beautiful full-page plates finely engraved by various artists from drawings by Gustave Doré. Celebrated and monumental third edition of Antonio Martini's classic Bible translation based on the Greek text of the Septuagint. Doré's biblical illustrations first appeared in France in 1865.
Gustave Doré, was an extraordinary illustrator, (born in Strasbourg on 6 January 1832 and died in Paris on 23 January 1883) considered one of the greatest and most prolific of the late 19th century. Very good copy with slight sporadic blooming; halo at the top up to page 80 of tome I. First few pages with more pronounced paper flourishes. Minor traces of time and wear to hinges and edges
