ZATTA ANTONIO

L’Arabia divisa in petrea, deserta e felice
Date: Venice,1784
Arabia
Cod 9757
Subject: Arabia
480,00 €
Copper engraving, 325x418 mm, original outline colour. From “Atlante novissimo.” Attractive cartouche at the bottom left. Excellent specimen. Antonio Zatta (1775-1797) was one of the most important publishers of maps in late 18th-century Italy. His work represents an important transition between ancient and modern cartography, focusing more on the accuracy of geographical details than on aesthetic embellishment rich in mythological or invented motifs, as was the case in the previous era. His most important work is Atlante novissimo, published between 1775 and 1789.
