Date: Antwerpen,1574
Tartaria
P1120023
Subject: Tartary, northern part of China and Japan
1.250,00 €
Copper engraving, 352x472, coloured, latin text. A detailed and decorative map of Tartary, northern part of China and Japan extending from the Pacific coast to the Caspian sea and from Tibet to the artic sea even if its main feature is the Stretto di Anian.
On the right there are “Sierra Nevada” and “C. Califormio” written; probably it’s the first map with indication of California. At top right the title is framed in a cartouche, whilst bottom left there is a description of the region, also framed by a cartouche. A good example nicely coloured. Very light paper discoloration in margin; left margin with an old professionally restored tear near the cartouche.
