ZATTA ANTONIO

Le Indie Orientali e il loro arcipelago
Date: Venice,1784
Cod 7411
Subject: Indonesia
380,00 €
Copper engraving, 340 x 420 mm, with contemporary colouring along the borders. A good copy. Based on Atlante novissimo. Antonio Zatta (1775-1797) was one of the most important map publishers of late 18th-century Italy. His work represents an important transition point between ancient and modern cartography, which was more attentive to the accuracy of geographical details than to the aesthetic embellishment rich in mythological or fictional motifs, as was the case in the previous era. His most important work is precisely Atlante novissimo, published between 1775 and 1789.
