Pair of copper engravings, mm 500x590 each, hand-painted period and later redefined later, taken from “Atlas coelestis” and, previously published in Homann's “Neuer Atlas” and other works by the Nuremberg publisher. Researched maps of the celestial hemispheres enriched by depictions of fluttering putti holding astronomical measuring instruments. They illustrate all the constellations besides Pegasus, Hercules, Ursa Major and many others. The German astronomer Doppelmaier published his work “Atlas novus coelestis” in an attempt to offer a comprehensive account of the history of astronomy, illustrating the solar system, movements of the planets, constellations, stars and various conceptions of the universe. Excellent specimens in full margins.
