Copper engraving measuring 495x580 mm, partially colored by hand, taken from “Atlas coelestis.” Beautiful representation of the Copernican system, with the orbits of the planets known at the time (up to Saturn) surrounded by the zodiacal constellations. Surrounding it are representations of the solar eclipse of 1706, the size of the sun compared to the planets and systems, an example of a lunar eclipse, and the three systems: Copernican, Tychonic, and Ptolemaic. A beautiful astronomical chart with many symbolic figures scattered in various parts among the clouds that enclose the entire engraving. J.G. Doppelmayr (1677-1750) was a German mathematician, astronomer, and cartographer. An excellent specimen with some minor marginal tears that have been restored and minimal traces of moisture.
