Copperplate engraving, contemporary color, mm 380x500. Elegant map executed on Magini's model. Good specimen in full-color even if slightly browned. W. Blaeu, an astronomer and pupil of Tycho Brahe, founded a workshop for making globes in 1599; almost immediately he began publishing maps as well, arriving in 1630 at the creation of the first atlas “Atlantis Appendix” and five years later, of the first two-volume edition of the “Atlas Novus.” After his death in 1638, edited by his son Johan came the publication in 1662 of the famous 11-volume “Atlas Maior.” In 1672 a fire destroyed the workshop and marked the end of the activity.
