Copper engraving, 342 x 475 mm, coloured. A pleasing map taken from "Italia," the seminal first atlas with maps of the entire peninsula, which the geographer and mathematician Magini produced in the late 16th century, but which, due to his death, was only published by his son in 1620. Thanks to his personal contacts with institutions and the most important cartographers of the time, Magini had access to cartographic material that was sometimes unpublished or otherwise unavailable to scholars. His work formed the foundation of all 17th-century cartography, and was consistently copied by all subsequent authors. A good copy with small restorations evident when held up to the light (some reinforcements, reintegration).
