Copper engraving, 676x490 mm, hand-painted at the edges and subsequently finished. Based on the work of Italian cartographer Clarici. One of the most detailed maps of the region published in the mid-18th century, edited by Paolo and Francesco Santini for their prestigious Atlas universel dressée sur les meilleures cartes modernes, a sumptuous atlas composed of maps that rework the most up-to-date French cartography in a Venetian style. The maps are taken from the best geographers of his time, D'Anville, Bellin, Bonne, Borgonio, Boscovich, Clarici, Delisle, Jaillot, Janvier, and Robert de Vaugondy. Santini's atlas was not a great publishing success and only a few copies were printed. It was then reprinted by the Remondini family, who had purchased the copper engravings from Santini in 1781. Remondini added several other maps, dated between 1782 and 1784, to Paolo Santini's maps, dated between 1774 and 1780. Among these, in the second volume, are the large folded map of Italy, the Republic of Genoa, Palestine, and the large maps of Africa. Paolo Santini (1729, Venice - 1793, Belluno), Catholic priest at the Church of Santa Maria Formosa in Venice, teacher of drawing at the schools of the lagoon city of the Venetian Province of the Society of Jesus. Paolo Santini (1729, Venice–1793, Belluno), Catholic priest at the Church of Santa Maria Formosa in Venice, teacher of drawing at the schools of the lagoon city of the Venetian Province of the Society of Jesus. Santini's plates were then purchased in 1780 by the Remondini printing house.
