Copper engraving, hand colored, mm 190x263, Fine specimen taken from the Venetian edition of the “Geographia” initially edited by Ruscelli, here in the edition edited by Moleto and published by the Sessa heirs, third edition in the translation by Ruscelli. The map is based on Gastaldi's 1548 one published in his edition of “Geography” which was one of the first regional maps of Croatia. This third edition, the rarest of the three states, is significantly reworked and includes numerous embellishments and toponym additions and a revisited topography, as a decorative element, the coat of arms at the bottom left. It is also one of the first maps of the region.
Girolamo Ruscelli (1500-1566) was born in Viterbo and is an important writer and publisher, who after studying in Padua spent his career between Rome and Naples, where he died.
