Copperplate engraving, hand-painted, 1230x1145 mm.
Magnificent published wallpaper in six sheets joined and mounted on back cloth with modern poles.
Some color halos, well preserved. The map is by Alexis-Hubert Jaillot, in the dedication published by Desnos, one of the leading French cartographers of the turn of the century. Jaillot (1632-1712), was one of the most important French cartographers of the 17th century. Jaillot went to Paris with his brother Simon in 1657 and began his career as a sculptor, devoting himself to cartography after marrying the daughter of the cartographer and publisher Berey. He later entered into partnership with Sanson's heirs, reprinting and reworking many of his maps.
