Copper engraving, 380x500 mm, Latin text on verso. Elegant and pleasant map, taken from Atlas Novus, enriched by a beautiful cartouche with coats of arms. Good condition, light general paper oxidation. W. Blaeu, an astronomer and pupil of Tycho Brahe, founded a workshop for the construction of globes in 1599; almost immediately he began to publish maps as well, leading in 1630 to the creation of the first atlas ‘Atlantis Appendix’ and five years later, of the first edition in two volumes of the ‘Atlas Novus’. After his death in 1638, his son Johan published the famous 11-volume ‘Atlas Maior’ in 1662. In 1672, a fire destroyed the workshop and marked the end of the business.
