Copper engraving, contemporary hand-colour, mm 470x590. Very decorative map of the British Isles with the arms of the States and the milestone scale to the lower left. Accurate in the toponymy of towns and cities. Matthaeus Seutter (1678-1757), one of the most important and prolific German publishers of the eighteenth century; after an apprenticeship with Homann in Nuremberg, he moved to Augsburg around 1720 where he opened his own business, surpassing the master in terms of beauty: his cards always have brilliant colors and elaborate cartouches. Taken from “Atlas novus sive tabulae geographicae totius orbis.” Mint copy.
