Copperplate engraving, period colored, mm 382x500. Elegant map executed on Magini's original. W. Blaeu, an astronomer and pupil of Tycho Brahe, founded a workshop for the construction of globes in 1599; almost immediately he began to publish maps as well, arriving in 1630 at the creation of the first atlas “Atlantis Appendix” and five years later, of the first edition in two tomes of the “Atlas Novus.” After his death in 1638, edited by his son Johan came the publication in 1662 of the famous 11-volume “Atlas Maior.” In 1672 a fire destroyed the workshop and marked the end of the business. Very good copy with a partial reinforcement to the center fold on the verso of the sheet.
