Copperplate engraving, mm 342x455, hand-painted. Taken from “Italia,” the very important atlas published posthumously by Fabio Magini, son of the famous Paduan astronomer and mathematician, the first to outline and conceive an atlas entirely devoted to Italy; for this work he made use of numerous unpublished maps, which he managed to find through personal acquaintances. The highly original end result, an amalgamation of previously published printed works and manuscript topographies, turned out to influence the cartography of the peninsula until the early 1700s due to its modernity. Specimen in pleasing coloring, restored flaws to central fold.
