400,00 €
Copper engraving, 220 × 313 mm. It depicts the area between Cefalù, Calascibetta, Messina and Augusta. Taken from *Chorographica descriptio provinciarum et conventuum Fratrum Minorum S. Francisci Capucinorum…*, otherwise known as the *Capuchin Atlas*. This atlas was published in 1643 at the behest of the General of the Capuchin Order, Giovanni Moriundo, and was subsequently reprinted in Turin in 1646, 1649 and 1654, and in Milan in 1712 and 1721 at the behest of the General of the Order, Giovan Battista Da Cassino, in an edition in which the maps were completely redrawn. The various editions always contain updates and, in this case, the atlas is well preserved, with minor restoration to the top right corner within the frame, which, however, does not affect the engraving. Valerio-Spagnolo. Sicily 1477–1861. The Spagnolo-Paterno Collection: Four Centuries of Cartography, entry no. 93
