HONDIUS JODOCUS

Verona, Vincenza
Date: Leiden,1627
Cod 35056
350,00 €
Copper engraving, 176 × 244 mm, hand-coloured. Taken from *Nova et accurata Italiae hodiernae descriptio*. A delightful medium-sized map depicting the territories of the two provinces between Cittadella and the lake. Jodocus Hondius, the Latinised name of the Dutchman Joost de Hondt (1563–1612), was a Flemish painter, engraver and cartographer. His work, continued by his son of the same name, helped to make Amsterdam the centre of European cartography in the 17th century. A fine example.
