RUSCELLI GIROLAMO

(Sfera armillare con venti).
Date: Venice,1561
300,00 €
Woodcut, 110 x 110 mm. Fascinating plate depicting the winds, with their Greek and Latin names, blowing on an armillary sphere. The plate is from Ruscelli's 1561 edition of Ptolemy's "Geography," based on Jacopo Gastaldi's revolutionary 1548 Venice edition, the first pocket edition of the "Geography." The plates in this edition are slightly larger than the original. Excellent condition.
