Copper engraving, mm 436x552. Hand colour. This important early sea chart shows dutch knowledge in the ocean. It’s One of the Earliest Obtainable Sea Charts of the Indian Ocean from the Dutch Golden Age and is taken from Atlas Maritimus, published in Amsterdam in 1650, the first sea-atlas in folio. The chart extends from Cape of Good Hope to Australia, then just marked with its primitive known coastline. Two compass roses are engraved in the bottom part of the chart and rhumb lines cross the ocean. Title is inserted in a cartouche between the wind roses. A good example with some tiny wormhole professional restored.
