This print is part of a series of famous promotional posters designed by Lucien Boucher beginning in 1933 to illustrate Air France’s numerous flight routes, enriched with scenes depicting allegories of the continents in Boucher’s characteristic surrealist graphic style. This poster showcases Air France’s significant expansion with new routes eastward to Japan and westward to the Americas. Numerous vignettes, in Boucher’s characteristic graphic style, illustrate the main characteristics of each continent, such as people, customs, flora, and fauna. Lucien Boucher (1889–1971), a renowned French illustrator, achieved his greatest fame by designing a series of promotional posters for Air France, after beginning his career as a cartoonist and later as a poster artist for the film industry and the advertising sector.
