Large map of the world within color cartographic grid, devoted to the communications technologies and categories of the time: in it are plotted the states with the possessions of their respective colonies, transcontinental railroads, caravan routes, rivers and waterways, major radio-telegraph stations, public and private, undersea telegraph cables, and the depths of the sea. Mile scale and degrees of latitude and longitude shown in margins. Upper left advertisement for olive oil by the Ramella company of Oneglia. Dardano Achille (Florence 1870/Rome 1938). took part in a competition of the Italian Geographical Society in 1890 that offered a pecuniary subsidy to young people interested in the theoretical and practical learning of cartography and in collaborating both on work related to the Great Atlas of Modern Geography; he had begun to contribute as a cartographer to the De Agostini Institute, founded in Rome on June 1, 1901. When the Ministry of the Colonies was established in 1912 and the topographical and geographical aspect assumed preeminent importance in the knowledge of colonial territories, a Cartographic Office was established by a decree dated May 5, 1914, D.'s collaboration with the ministry had begun as early as 1917 with a map of the boundaries of the Eritrean Colony.He is also remembered for the 'technical assistance to the missions that fixed the boundaries of the Italian colonies. D. made a valuable contribution to the Italian Encyclopedia with the execution of the papers, numbering about two thousand, that accompany its texts. Fine specimen, hints of editorial creases.
