Copper engraving, mm 195 x 385.
Uncommon world map from the best edition of 1610, not to be confused with the primitive of 1609, a much poorer engraving. Torniello published in 1609 the “Annales Sacri et Profani” a history of the world, republished a year later with a better map which goes back to the model of Ortelius. America is called “America Mexicana” and is crossed eastwards by the S. Lorenzo river; south America, crossed by the Rio delle Amazzoni, called “Peruiana” bears the bulb shape drawn by Ortelius in his first plate of the world. Huge is the regione antartica, whilst Asia bears a ptolemaic shape. Corners are decorated by cherubs symbolizing winds.
