Fine color aquatint engraving on Hahnemühle paper by Salvatore Mangione, known as Salvo. Measurements at the line cm 53x48. Sheet cm 80x60. Edition numbered specimen N°67/100; artist's signature in lapis at lower right. Excellent specimen. Salvo (Leonforte, Enna, 1947 - Turin, 2015) was an Italian modernist painter and sculptor known for his conceptual practice, Salvo was a member of the Italian Arte Povera Circle, with an unmistakable style generated by bright colors. Early in his career, he was associated with Turin's Arte Povera movement of the 1960s. During this period he shared a studio with Alighiero Boetti, and the two had a mutual influence on each other's practices. He later moved on to metaphysical landscapes and richly colored cityscapes; in his pictorial and mental space there is no human presence, as is often the case even in the squares of De Chirico, his teacher and inspirer. Spaces imagined to create simplified and hyper-saturated compositions that imply abstract concepts such as time and memory. His work has been presented at Documenta and the Venice Biennale.
