The idea was to create a “lafreri atlas”, using maps from personal collections of the associated fellows. The result is an itinerary with 74 printed maps published in Rome or Venice between 1525 and 1575, the heart of the golden age of italian cartografy of the Renaissance. It includes maps of world, continents, european states and single regions, including some bird-eye plans of italian towns. Some of the maps are known in a unique example or in just a very few numbers and are generally accessible only to scholars but not to the public. A fully illustrated catalogue has been printed. The goal of the exhibition is to promote historic cartography and to interest a new public of less expert, explaining tecnical aspects and historic contest.
