Screenprint proof, 460x460 mm, from a subject by Depero, signed and dated ‘Depero 1921’ in imprint; printed in 1990 in Rovereto. Bottom left pencil inscription ‘P.d.S’ (print proof). Area Studio dry stamp in lower right corner.
The print is untitled but the subject comes from the preparatory work carried out to publicise the inauguration, on 19 April 1922, of the club called Cabaret del Diavolo, which he designed and created in the centre of Rome, in Via Basilicata, annexed to the Hotel Elite et les Etragers as the Bar Americano. The three rooms, named Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso, each had a specific chromatic and typological character: the Paradiso furniture was blue, the Purgatorio furniture green and the Inferno furniture red. For the opening, the advertising flyer read ‘Round trip to the Other World. All to Hell!!! Devil's Cabaret'. The lighting was created in shades of white-pink-blue to reflect and give light in the Paradise room to images of angels and cherubs; in Purgatory white-green for a cohort of green souls; red to give atmosphere to devils and the damned enveloped in flames in Hell. Rare. Very good condition wide margins.
