500,00 €
Original double-page color lithograph, 380x560 mm. Taken from Derriere le Mirroir no. 156. Alexander Calder, born in Philadelphia in 1898, began his career as an engineer, only later to follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps as a sculptor, but not only that as he also devoted himself to painting, lithographs, tapestries, carpets and jewelry. Feeling equally attracted to art and technology, he developed a totally unique style of sculpture; his constructions were huge but nevertheless seemingly light and floating. Famous are his large abstract kinetic art sculptures called mobiles, regarded by critics as the most innovative American sculptures of the 20th Century.
