Rahab and the Spions in Jericho

Subject: Rahab and the Spions in Jericho
450,00 €
Very good copy of this original enchanting, particularly finely drawn colour lithograph not numbered, mm 260x355 by Marc Chagall from “Drawings From the Bible” 1960. Chagall’s style has been described as a hybrid of Cubism, Fauvism, and Symbolism, and his supernatural subjects are thought to have significantly influenced the Surrealists. He arrived in Paris in 1910 and began experimenting with Cubism, befriending painters Robert Delaunay and Fernand Léger. As in many of his lithographs, Chagall accompanies the subjects, often lovers or the spectacle of the crazy world of the circus (that Chagall loved during his whole lifetime), with organic forms such as flowers and twigs or better animals. His individual way to use deep black lines contrasted with soft colours, enriched the scenes that are enlightened with the right degree of color full of joy and dynamics. Lithography in color by Mourlot Frères, Paris.
