Etching and burin signed in plate in lower centre; 505x680 mm (plate), 534x810 mm (sheet); from "Views of Paestum", plate III.
Excellent proof in Roman printing-run, printed on coeval laid paper without watermark, generally in very good condition, small restored tear at lower margin. The views of Paestum are Piranesi's last major work, executed after a trip to visit the temples, during which he made preparatory drawings. It consists of twenty plates plus the frontispiece, three of which are signed by his son Francesco, although all the plates were in fact the work of Giambattista assisted by his son, who did part of the engravings.
