Copperplate engraving, charming period hand-coloring, mm 305x378, Latin text on verso. Perspective plan oriented with the Seine below, showing the city's dense network of streets, major buildings and fortifications. Important landmarks, such as Rouen Cathedral, are prominently depicted. The surrounding countryside is illustrated in great detail, including fields, roads and minor settlements. The map includes a decorative cartouche, two coats of arms, and a legend in the lower right corner listing the town's significant sites. Taken from “Civitates Orbis Terrarum,” a milestone of Vedutism, printed from 1572 to 1617 in 6 volumes published in different years in various languages, compiled and written by Georg Braun, while Frans Hogenberg was the author of the engravings together with Simon Novellanus, generally from subjects by Hoefnagel. Very good condition albeit with slight oxidation.
