Hand-painted lithograph, 310 x 445 mm. Beautiful view along the Thames with St. Paul's Cathedral in the background and a scene of boats in the foreground; from "Ports de Mer d'Europe". An excellent example. A charming river scene with views of London Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral in the background.
The print is part of a series by Nicolas Marie Joseph Chapuy depicting famous European seaports. Chapuy (1790-1858) was a French architect and artist, initially employed in the French civil service and responsible for the restoration of medieval buildings. After the fall of Bonaparte, he refused to renounce his loyalty to the Emperor and left the government in 1817, embarking on a career as an architectural and landscape painter. He traveled throughout Europe and achieved success with his portraits of famous monuments.
