700,00 €
Etching, mm 550x400; on laid paper, engraved by Vincenzo Aloia, edited by Georg Abraham Hackert, based on a painting by his brother Jacob Philip Hackert. It depicts the Roman amphitheatre of Santa Maria Capua in Vetere (ancient Capua), which is said to have been the first Roman amphitheatre to have been built in the world, and second only to the Colosseum, for which it was used as a model. The engraving shows the spoliation made by the Capuans who, in the Longobard age, used the ruins to build the Castle of the Stones, of the city of Capua.
