Philipp Jakob Hackert (1737-1807), of German nationality, made numerous trips to Italy from a very young age and settled definitively in Rome in 1768. He became court painter to the King of Naples and in 1780 produced the famous cycle of paintings Ten Views of Horace's Country House. The paintings depicting Caserta and its royal palace are famous. Fine example with full margins, one stain at the lower margin of the left corner.
