GIOLFI ANTONIO

Veduta di Strada Nuova (repeated in french)
Date: Genova,1769
Cod 34922
800,00 €
Copper engraving, 413 x 655 mm, signed at the bottom “Giolfi Inv.” in the center, “Torr. del.” on the left and “Guid s.” on the right. Beautiful perspective view of the main and elegant city artery, part of the series Raccolta di diverse vedute della città di Genova e delle principali suoi parti e fabbrica (Collection of diverse views of the city of Genoa and its main parts and buildings) that Giolfi published in 1769, dedicating it to Giuseppe Doria and his father Giovanni Francesco who died prematurely. The series comprises twenty etchings executed in collaboration with the Tuscans Giuseppe Torricelli for the preparatory draft, Gian Lorenzo Guidotti (author of some plates for the second edition of the Encyclopédie) for the engraving, as well as Giuseppe Riviera for the execution of the drawings of the two plates of San Pier d’Arena and of the Villa Doria in Fassolo and Chiesa Tessera, authors of four plates. G. selected and directed his collaborators, sometimes limiting their creativity and design (Poleggi, 1986, pp. 17 ff.). Only one bound copy of the entire print collection is known today. A good copy with a few restored pinholes, side margins trimmed to the edge of the copperplate.
