Lithograph, 263x395 mm, based on a drawing by Harding during his trip to Italy in 1834. Harding, an English painter specialising in watercolours (Depford 1797-1863), was a pupil of Samuel Prout, a member of the Royal Academy, which he joined in 1821, and teacher of J. Ruskin, with whom he worked in Italy until 1845. He was also an art theorist, stating in his ‘Principles and Practice of Art’ that it was impossible to imitate real objects in art. A pleasant view taken from the north with the castle in the foreground. Taken from ‘Sketches at Home and Abroad’. A fine copy with small occasional foxing on the margins.
