Cod 35209
800,00 €
Copper engraving, 342 x 464 mm, taken from the rare work *Theatrum praecipuarum totius Europae urbium tam iconographice quam cospicue delineatarum*. This engraving was originally included in “Theatrum praecipuarum urbium,” Janssonius’s famous work on the cities of the world, which was inspired by Braun and Hogenberg’s earlier work “Civitates Orbis Terrarum,” from which he reused the plates purchased in 1653 with minor modifications. Published in 1657, it contains over 500 plates depicting cities from all over the world. For many of the views of Italian cities contained in the fifth volume—dedicated to Italy and titled “Illustriorum Italiae Urbium Tabulae...”—he also made extensive use of the plates by Jodocus Hondius engraved for “Italia Hodierna” (1627).
